My Story

About Me

Sailing for disability, inclusion and possibility.

I’m taking on the 2026 Sydney to Hobart with the Making Waves Foundation to help create opportunities for people living with disability and disadvantage.

This campaign is deeply personal to me. I live with the effects of a stroke, I am the father of a son who is autistic, and I have seen firsthand how important inclusion, confidence and opportunity can be.

My goal is to raise funds, challenge perceptions about disability and show that sometimes the biggest obstacles in our lives can become the starting point for something extraordinary.

My Story

From suffering a stroke on a sailboat to racing to Hobart.

A few years ago, while sailing with my two sons, I suffered a stroke aboard.

My boys were there when it happened. What began as a day together on the water suddenly became one of the most frightening moments of our lives. The stroke left me with a disability affecting my left hand and forced me to rethink many of the things I had previously taken for granted.

Eventually, I made the decision to return to sailing. I had to adapt, rebuild my confidence and learn that doing things differently didn’t mean giving them up.

My sons have not yet returned to the water.

As a father, that is an important part of this journey for me. One of my sons is autistic, so the mission of Making Waves, to create opportunities, confidence, belonging and inclusion for people living with disability, has a particularly personal meaning.

I hope that by seeing their dad return to the ocean and take on the Sydney to Hobart, my boys will see that a difficult experience does not have to define what comes next. Perhaps one day it will help give them the confidence to step aboard a boat again too.

The Sydney to Hobart is therefore much more than a yacht race for me. It represents resilience, recovery and possibility.

Through this campaign I want to raise funds for the Making Waves Foundation so more people living with disability can experience the freedom, teamwork, confidence and sense of achievement that sailing can provide.

If my journey can inspire someone to believe a little more in what they are capable of and help create that opportunity for others then every mile to Hobart will be worth it.

Please support my campaign by donating or sharing my story. Every contribution helps Making Waves create opportunities and change lives.
